PROJECT #1

Topic #2:
DESCRIBE:
The tv I decided to watch is called The Bold Type. This show can be watched on Freeform as well as Hulu, which is what I watch it on every Tuesday for the past three Tuesdays. It is a drama tv show that captures the eye of any millennial out there, with its different look and twist on life. The Bold Type is so new that it currently only has three episodes out. This show is about three young woman in New York trying to make there dreams happen in the working life of a magazine publishing network.
So far the three episodes have been about feminism empowerment, struggling over self doubt, internet trolling and how these three girls over come it though teamwork. While watching these interesting episodes I do not see a lot of familiar faces. Most of the actors are new faces to me and critics agree. Rotten tomatoes gives it a 7.74/10 in its article last week, you can even check it out here if you are interested. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/the_bold_type/s01/
Some critics have great reviews such as this one,"All three young women bring the kind of enthusiasm and wide-eyed look at life in the big city." Others not so much such as this quote on rotten tomatoes, "It feels less bold than familiar, and thus, in its own way, perhaps too quickly comfortable."
Like I said before I watch it on Hulu which has advertisement galore. The advertisements vary from l'oreal make up to version wireless. But whats different is that these adds are only around one minute long and than it is back to your show so its better than regular cable and convent for folks that do not have a lot of time to spare.

ANALYZE:
This new bold tv show is all about millennial and how they are facing problems whether personal  or work related. it shows modern style following three empowered woman on there journey through there twenties led by there mentor. The attitude is upbeat with a fun twist that makes you get out of the world type feeling. Each one are going through the same thing but in a different way. Each one of these main characters have a very fashionable style and look on life. Each of its main women dreaming of something bigger, stumbling along the way, and bonding together. It even manages to throw in some sly commentary on the changing tastes and strategies of women’s magazines, with Scarlet prizing the “click gold” of spotlighting a lesbian Muslim artist just as much as a story on how to have your best orgasm. It’s part journalism drama, similar to Sex and the City-style female bonding comedy with sex and romance; it’s equally interested in being both things at once, to the best of its ability, and damned if it doesn’t pull it off more often than you’d think. What makes it different is how they bring up issues and tackles them in there own way. Like the way they brought up muslim religion and cyber bullying and how difficult these situations are and how they went about fixing them.

INTERPRET:
There are many stereotypes like in any tv show. Such as the assistant sleeping with her boss or or even how one of the main woman characters are questioning her sexuality. This character is a corky social media representative that starts to have feelings for a muslim female after bonding with her though an even bigger issue of muslim and her culture. Other ways they gone out of there way to avoid stereotypes is woman in the work place. The Bold Type decided to hang a sharp left, giving Jacqueline the boss lady a kind of personality that defies every stereotype about successful women. Yes, she's intimidating and at times a bit blunt; but that's where her harsh nature ends. Jacqueline has all the smarts and grit of a woman who earned her success, with none of the toxic pride or cruelty. It is a very feminism targeted audience that still captures any watcher but most millennials.  But because I watch it on Hulu the commercials are at random but still the show most targets the younger generation. What I would take from watching this if I was a visit to the United States would be the social media is a big part of everyones life whether it is in the office or for your personal lives as well the struggle of living in the big city while trying to live your dream at the same time.

EVALUATE:
The show has a lot of strengths and weaknesses. One of which they bring up issues such as the main character Kat's Twitter storyline story about slut-shaming, the rape threats, the hacking that's relatable to all women (especially in media), but when her @ replies float along the screen, it's distracting enough to accidentally lessen the narrative's necessary weight. And to add to that this is all a big issue among the younger generation or anyone on social media some would say that it is too big of an issue that cant just be captured in one episode like it tried to do. So by showing these big issues is strength and a weakness because yes they talk about them and address them but not to the extend they should be doing to get a clear message. But it does show the real life view on these topics.
I like how each episode is different and shows a different issue that the girls tackle and overcome together. What I do not necessary like about this show is how hard they try mess the main characters lives up so that we can watch them fix it and over come each problem that arrises. Yes in real life these problem do exist but most do not go through them all at once or even over come them like they do in this tv show. Such as the constant problems that arise from the work place. One of the main characters always struggles with coming up with an article to write about. No matter how hard it is she always over comes the problem and comes up with the perfect article, which to me just is not to realistic. What I love about the show is how this friend group is so strong and how they help each other get through things together. although it might not be the most realistic, it still shows in there own way the power of working together. Like for instance the main characters have a go to work closet that is there sanctuary in a way. They come together in thick and thin to this closet and instead of it bring a coffee shop or bar like most tv shows it is a closet, which I like because it shows the difference this show brings.
My opinion is fairly like the professionals ones I have looked up. One raves on metacritic saying "It addresses important issues but it doesn't feel like it's trying too hard. It immediately became one of my favorite new shows!" Others state on entertainment weekly stating, "paints a fun but unrealistic picture of life at a big-city magazine."

ENGAGE:
The Bold Type currently only has three episodes out so far but I plan to keep watching them as they come out to see where they take this show because it certainly peeked my interest and has me hooked. As for my family they have not watched it but it should not be to long until they do since I am already hooked on it. I also do not really use my social media to follow tv shows but if I keep watching it and stay hooked on the show I will certainly follow the fan base just to find out the release dates or any news it has for its fan base that I probably should stay on top of. Once I do want to become apart of the online fan base there are plenty of social media accounts it has. Such as a Facebook page, a twitter account and even an online Instagram account for each of the characters. If I peeked any of my readers interested here are some links to there accounts:

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheBoldTypeTV/
Twitter: https://twitter.com/theboldtypetv?lang=en
Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theboldtypetv/?hl=en

On these platforms they are targeting there followers by keeping them informing on new episodes, they can gain followers and viewers, Increase brand awareness and loyalty, Share content faster and easier, and even Build relationships. Each media site has thousands of followers and views so that to me is a success and means it is working. This show is definitely a fave on social media and whether it is good talk or bad talk the people are still talking about it which is good.

CONCLUSIONS:
I learned that a lot more than what I thought does into a tv show. That yes it takes actors a cast and everything in between but it also is a lot more than just that. Such as the social media accounts getting the word out there and just getting people to talk about it. What surprised me by doing this assignment is how I took apart this show and learned a great deal more about what this show is about and its attending audience. That it is more than just a show. So go check it out for yourselves and tell me what you think about The Bold Type!
